Evacuated Glass Tube Solar Hot Water Systems |

Do they really out-perform flat plate solar hot water systems by 40%?
|
|
 |
Manufacturers of evacuated glass tube solar hot water systems claim that their system will out-perform conventional flat plate solar hot water systems by as much as 40%.
This is simply not true!
Solar hot water systems for sale in Australia are independently tested by a Government approved process, and are given a RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) rating according to their efficiency.
The higher the value of the RECs rating, the better the system performs.
Below is some data from a table on the Office of Renewable Energy website showing the comparative ratings of solar hot water systems. The complete, most recent table, released in June 2009 can be downloaded as a PDF - Click Here -
The systems on the table below have been chosen for their similarity in size to make the comparison as fair as possible.

If Evacuated Glass Tube Systems performed 40% better than the Edwards L32 Australis, they would have a RECs rating of 43.
Edwards are Australian Made, whereas evacuated glass tube systems are imported from China.
The Evacuated Tube techonology is not new. It was trialed in Australia more than 15 years ago by a leading solar hot water manufacturer and deemed unsuitable for Australian conditions.
Edwards have a proven track record in reliability, service and performance without the need for misleading advertising.
